INEOS Grenadier enters tender for UK Ministry of Defence

The Ministry of Defence has formally launched a tender worth an estimated £2 billion to deliver a new Light Mobility Vehicle for the Armed Forces, replacing capabilities currently provided by legacy fleets, including Land Rover and Pinzgauer.

INEOS Automotive, SMT Defence, NMS UK, along with Hobson Industries and TVS have joined forces to form Team Grenadier, a UK-anchored industrial collaboration dedicated to delivering a range of vehicles ideal for deployment by the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD), based on the INEOS Grenadier platform.

The INEOS Grenadier is the lynchpin of the project — a purpose-engineered and highly durable vehicle, designed for exceptional reliability and off-road performance. Its ladder-frame chassis, permanent four-wheel drive, beam axles and high payload capacity, provide a robust baseline for defence adaptation across multiple roles and operating environments.

One base platform, the Grenadier & Quartermaster, will be able to support all Light Mobility Vehicle variants.

The Grenadier provides best-in-class off-road capability, durability, and reliability with the modern comfort and refinement customers expect wherever they are in the world. In 2023 a double-cab pick-up variant of the Grenadier was launched called the Quartermaster.

Specialist Configurations

The INEOS Grenadier has transitioned from a commercial 4x4 into a certified emergency fleet platform, achieving official UK Met Police Test approval following rigorous testing. Engineered purposefully for specialist configurations, it allows blue-light modifications without altering the core vehicle structure or voiding factory warranties.

Grenadier draws on a highly established network of British and European suppliers, with the vast majority of vehicle components sourced within the region. This concentrated industrial footprint connects proven automotive production with local engineering expertise, scalable manufacturing and dependable long-term component availability. For defence users, proximity matters. Platforms manufactured and supported thousands of miles from their operating base may depend on ocean freight, multiple border crossings and complex international logistics chains. Grenadier’s British and European supply base reduces these dependencies, enabling more predictable lead times, stronger supply-chain visibility and faster access to engineering and parts support.
